Preeti to Unicode converter

Convert Nepali text typed in the Preeti font to Unicode, so it works on websites, phones, and Google, or convert Unicode back to Preeti.

Convert

Text copied from a Preeti document looks like English letters, such as g]kfn for नेपाल.

Unicode text works everywhere: websites, Facebook, email, Google, and phones.

What is the difference between Preeti and Unicode?

Preeti is an older Nepali font that draws Devanagari letters on top of English keys. The text only looks Nepali while the Preeti font is selected; anywhere else it turns into letters like g]kfn. Unicode is the modern standard: नेपाल is stored as real Nepali characters, so it displays correctly on any device, can be searched on Google, and works on websites, social media, and email.

How to use this converter

  1. Open your Preeti document (for example in Microsoft Word), select the text, and copy it.
  2. Paste it into the box above. The Unicode version appears instantly.
  3. Copy the result and paste it wherever you need it, such as your website, a Facebook post, or an email.

To go the other way, choose Unicode → Preeti, paste Unicode text, copy the result, and set the font to Preeti in your document.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Nepali text show as English letters?

It was typed in the Preeti font. Without the font, each Nepali letter shows as the English key it is stored on. Converting it to Unicode fixes this permanently.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your text never leaves your device. That makes it safe for private documents.

Does it support Kantipur, PCS Nepali, or other fonts?

This converter is built for the standard Preeti layout. Other legacy fonts use different key layouts, so their text may not convert correctly.

Some letters came out wrong. What should I do?

Preeti documents sometimes use unusual key combinations for rare conjunct letters. Check the result, fix any odd letters by hand, and let me know the original text so I can improve the converter.

Why should my website use Unicode instead of Preeti?

Google can only read and rank Unicode text, and visitors on phones won’t have the Preeti font installed. Unicode makes your Nepali content searchable and readable everywhere.
